After clinching the Northeast-10 conference championship with a 22-2 thumping against Assumption last week, the Le Moyne men’s lacrosse team looked to finish their regular season unblemished with a win at fourth place St. Anselm.
On Saturday, the Dolphins traveled to New Hampshire and completed their regular season sweep, defeating the St. Anselm Hawks 9-2. The win was head coach Dan Sheehan’s 200th of his career. In fifteen seasons, Sheehan has led the Dolphins to a remarkable record of 200-27, with three national titles. Also, Saturday’s win marked the 12th time in 13 years that the team has finished Northeast-10 conference play with a perfect record.
On Saturday, the Dolphins’ offense was led by Tyler Prevost (2 g, 3 a), Andrew Chadderdon (2 g), and Chris Button (3 g). Junior net minder and three time reigning NE-10 goalie of the week, Jeff White, again anchored the ‘Phin’s defense, making 11 stops on 13 shots.
The No. 2 nationally ranked Dolphins, who have outscored opponents 184-58 this season, will enjoy a first round bye in the NE-10 conference tournament. As the number one seed, Le Moyne will face the winner of No. 5 St. Anselm and No. 4 St. Michael’s at home on Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in the semi-finals.
If the Dolphins win their semi-final match-up, the finals will be held at Le Moyne on Sunday, May 6, and can be seen live on Northeast10.tv.
