The Le Moyne softball team went 2-2 over the weekend as they won their first home game of the season over Assumption by a score of 1-0 in eight innings on Saturday, March 25.

The Dolphins also picked up a win in their first game against American International on Sunday, March 26, by a score of 8-5, but unfortunately dropped the second game in both doubleheaders.

The first game against Assumption went through seven scoreless innings until senior third baseman Kelcie Cashel led off the eighth with a single. Sophomore right fielder Sarah Tram then followed with another hit to the shortstop, who overthrew the first baseman, allowing Cashel to round third and score the winning run.

The win got Le Moyne back on track after dropping their last eight contests, five of which were decided by two runs or less.

The Dolphins unfortunately lost the second game of their doubleheader with Assumption by a score of 2-0 in yet another hard-fought game.

Sunday brought another opening win for Le Moyne as they were able to beat American International by a score of 8-5.

American International held a 5-2 lead over the Dolphins until Le Moyne’s bats came alive in the sixth inning as they scored six runs to take an 8-5 lead en route to the win.

In the sixth, Cashel drove in the first two runs with a double to left center which brought the Dolphins within one run. Senior catcher Morgan Edmondson added a single up the middle which drove Cashel in to tie the game.

Senior shortstop Barb Shea and sophomore pitcher Sarah Harrison then added singles to drive in the go-head runs for the Dolphins.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Le Moyne fell just short by a final score of 4-3, splitting the day’s games.

The weekend puts Le Moyne’s record at 6-18 and 2-4 in Northeast-10 conference play. The Dolphins were scheduled for a Wednesday, March 28, doubleheader at Pace at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. They will be back at home on Friday, March 30, for another doubleheader against Georgian Court, also at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
