The Le Moyne women’s basketball team defeated conference opponent New Haven this past Saturday by a score of 81-70.
The win followed a heartbreaking loss on the road to American International where the Dolphins fell short by just one point, 56-55.
“Against American International, our entire team was in that game, from the five players on the floor, the coaches, and the entire bench,” senior center Emma Cronk said. “We only lost by one point against a great team and that is something we can definitely build on.”
The Dolphins used that loss as a learning experience as New Haven opened the next game on a 7-0 run. But Le Moyne then scored 15 of the next 18 points to grab a lead that would stand for the remainder of the game.
Senior guard Morgan Rowland led the Dolphins in scoring as she put up 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. Forward Katie Hart recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Two other Dolphins scored in double digits as junior guard Torie Lee and Cronk each put up 11 and 15 points, respectively. Also, sophomore guard Maddy McKnight recorded 10 assists to go along with her eight points as she consistently set up her teammates with solid scoring opportunities.
The win puts Le Moyne’s record at 7-16 and 4-15 in Northeast-10 conference play.
“We are competing in every game, which has helped us gain confidence,” McKnight said. “Our goals for the future are to continue to compete and get better each game. With that hopefully will come wins.”
The Dolphins return for their last two home games of the season this Saturday, Feb. 18, against Adelphi at 1 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 20, against Pace at 5:30 p.m.
