Men’s and women’s swimming have success over the weekend

The Le Moyne men’s swimming and diving team picked up their first win over the weekend by a 140-70 margin over Pace at Assumption College’s Plourde Recreation Center. The women’s team also beat Pace (134-120) but lost to Assumption.
Junior Scott Thieke led the way for the men’s team as he won three individual events and was a part of a relay win for the Dolphins. He opened the meet by swimming the first leg for the 400-yard medley relay team that finished with a winning time of 3:58.82.
Thieke was joined in the relay by junior James Walker, junior Tim Gallivan and freshman Thomas Bacon. Thieke then won his three individual events in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke, posting times of 1:52.58 and 2:11.64, respectively and a time of 2:11.63 in the 200 individual medley.
Other individual event winners for Le Moyne included senior Drew Acquaviva in the 50-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Connor Agen in the 1000-yard freestyle, junior Tim Gallivan in the 200-yard butterfly and sophomore Tyler Olson in the 50-yard freestyle. Gallivan, Acquaviva, Olson and Ricky Divacarro captured a crucial win in the 200 free-relay with a time of 1:31.26.
For the women’s team, senior Katie O’Donnell kept her undefeated streak alive in individual events this year by posting three wins to improve to 11-0.
She won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.40, the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.62 seconds and also the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.81 seconds.
Both the men’s and women’s team will be back in the pool this Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. Rose at 1 p.m. in a meet that will help determine the Upstate Challenge standings, in which the Golden Knights currently lead 4-2.
