The Le Moyne men’s soccer team split 2 home games this past week, losing to Dominican 2-0, and then defeating conference opponent Stonehill 2-0. This 2 match home-stand puts the Dolphins at 8-5-1 overall and an impressive 7-2 in Northeast-10 play.

The match against Dominican was a defensive battle of missed opportunities for both teams until Dominican capitalized on a penalty kick late in the second half to go up 1-0. They then added a second goal minutes later on an open net, putting the game out of reach.

Le Moyne rebounded in their next match against Stonehill by putting up two goals in the span of 3 minutes.

The first was a header from freshman midfielder Casey Murphy, assisted by senior midfielder Jesse Carr. The goal was set up by a corner kick from Carr to the front of the net, where Murphy headed the ball in. This broke open another scoreless match in the 75th minute, giving Le Moyne a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after in the 78th minute, the Dolphins struck again with a goal from freshman midfielder Alexander Lautner assisted by sophomore midfielder Zachary MacNabb. MacNabb sent a cross from the left sideline into the penalty box where Lautner was able to put the ball in the net, putting Le Moyne up 2-0.

The Dolphins held strong for the remainder of the game to win their third consecutive conference match as sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Silva posted his seventh shutout of the season.

The win puts Le Moyne in fourth place in the Northeast-10 standings with only 4 matches left, all of which are against conference opponents.

If the Dolphins can manage to win their remaining matches, three of which are against teams ranked lower in the conference, the other against first place Franklin Pierce, then they could have a realistic shot at first place in the Northeast-10.

The next home match for Le Moyne is Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 3:30 p.m. against New Haven.
