Quick hit: Coming off a week in which he posted back-to-back shutouts, Le Moyne Men’s soccer goalie, Matt Silva, has been named Athlete of the Week. Silva is also the current Northeast-10 Goalie of the week.
What brought him to Le Moyne: Silva very quickly fell in the love with the small school atmosphere that the campus provides. He also enjoyed the great camaraderie the team had as well as the excellent team chemistry he felt he could fit right into.
What has led to the success: During the off-season, Silva never stopped working. He played all year, with whomever, wherever. This dedication he felt is one of the big reasons he’s made such a leap this season. Whether it is in the weight room or on the pitch, the dedication hasn’t stopped and the results really prove that.
Season turning point: Coming off their worst loss of the year, The Dolphins rode Silva to a 2-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State. The team was in need of a big morale boost, and Silva did not fail them. Stopping all 5 shots faced, the Dolphins got back on the winning track which propelled them to a current 3 match road winning streak. Silva felt the game provided the team with much confidence and something great to build on.
Expectations going forward: “The Dolphins are in a current must-win mode,” said Silva. Every game is crucial, and ties are unacceptable if the team is to achieve its goal of an NCAA berth. He mentioned that with the team in a mindset of one game at a time, they all have just as much importance as the next.
Future plans: Silva’s goal is to reach the professional level as a goalkeeper, but regardless of whether or not that works out, a degree from Le Moyne will be a tremendous asset going forward.
