English professor and director of the Creative Writing Program David Lloyd’s five ways to combat writer’s block
.) Lower your standards.
.) Write to a deadline. For example: “Please write on the theme ‘five ways to combat writer’s block,’ due by Sunday, no excuses.”
.) Leave your keyboard and read a (good) book, because writing grows out of reading.
.) Revise something you’ve already written. (99 percent of writing is revision, but no one ever talks about “reviser’s block.”
.) Choose a topic you feel some passion about, such as “my five favorite Welsh poets.” Who could ever have writer’s block about that?
